LK-Cable-25: the 25mm Soft Link for Small Traction Packs

A battery cable is judged by two things a photograph cannot show: how it behaves when the pack shifts, and what happens at the lug after a thousand charge cycles. The LK-Cable-25 is a copper conductor in a black rubber jacket, made for the soft connection between cells on lead-acid forklift packs, with the centre length cut to your terminal distance.

How to Specify One

1. Measure the terminal gap. Centre length is the distance between the two lug centres once the cable is fitted, not the length of the cable lying flat.
2. Match the diameter to the load. 25mm suits light traction and auxiliary links; heavier trucks step up through 35mm and 50mm in the same series.
3. Confirm the terminal type. These leads are built for screw-type battery connections, so the lug has to match the bolt on the cell.

Why the Jacket Matters as Much as the Copper

A rubber jacket is chosen because it stays flexible at the temperatures a battery compartment reaches and because it resists the acid film that settles on everything in a charging room. A cable that hardens with age stops absorbing movement, and the movement then transfers to the lug, which is where soft connections fail.

Each length is cut and terminated to the terminal spacing you specify, so a replacement drops into the same position as the cable it replaces without re-routing the pack.

25mm or 35mm: How the Choice Is Made

The deciding factor is the current the link will carry and how much movement it has to absorb. Cell links inside a small pack carry less than the main lead to the truck, so 25mm is often the right section there, while the lead that leaves the pack may need 35mm. Where a pack is being rebuilt, the simplest approach is to measure the old cables and match the section, then adjust only where a truck has been uprated.

A cable that is oversized is not harmful, but it is stiffer. On short cell links, flexibility matters more than a few percent of resistance, which is why the smaller sections still exist in the range.

Stocking Notes for a Workshop

Because the length is made to order, the practical approach is to keep one or two spare links per truck size in the store and re-order when they are used. A pack that loses a link mid-shift can then be brought back with a part that already fits, instead of waiting for a made-to-order lead.
