A dust cover is a small part with a specific job: keep dust, acid mist and metal particles out of a connector that is not currently mated. The SC904, SC905 and SC906 covers fit the SC50, SC175 and SC350 connectors respectively, moulded in PC110U and certified CE, UL and TUV.

Which Cover Fits Which Connector

The three part numbers map to the three connector sizes in the SC family. Fitting the wrong cover is worse than fitting none: a loose cover falls off in service, and a tight one distorts the housing it is meant to protect.

Because the covers share the family geometry, a site that runs SC50, SC175 and SC350 connectors needs three part numbers, not a search through unrelated accessories.

What a Cover Actually Prevents

An unmated connector in a battery room collects exactly what damages it: acid mist that etches the plating, dust that abrades the contact face, and metal particles from workshop floors that can bridge a pole. A cover addresses all three for the cost of a moulded cap.

The same cover also keeps the mating face clean between shifts, which matters on chargers used intermittently rather than continuously.

Ordering Covers With Connectors

Covers are normally ordered alongside the connectors they protect, in the ratio of one per unmated connector. Stock ships in three to five working days, custom colours in five to seven days after payment.

Fitting the Cover Correctly

The cover should seat fully without force and stay on when the connector is hanging by its lead. If it needs to be pressed hard, it is the wrong size for that body; if it drops off, it will not be there when it matters. Check the fit on one connector of each size before distributing covers across a site.

Colour, Stock and Replacement Cycle

Covers are moulded in the standard colour or a custom colour on request, which helps separate voltage classes in a mixed bay. They are consumables: they crack, discolour and go missing, so ordering them alongside connectors in a sensible ratio avoids a bay where half the connectors are open to the atmosphere.

What a Cover Does Not Fix

A cover cannot rescue a contact face that is already pitted, and it will not compensate for a connector left mated in the rain. Its job is preventing contamination before it starts; where a contact has already discoloured, the connector needs inspection rather than a new cap.

Covers are also worth fitting to spare leads kept on the shelf: a spare connector that has been open to the air for a year is not really a spare, and the cap costs a fraction of replacing it before use.
