Two Requirements That Pull in Different Directions

A 320A joint needs metal: enough contact area, enough spring pressure, enough plating thickness to survive thousands of mates. An acid-proof joint needs the opposite instinct: less exposed metal, more sealed geometry, materials that do not absorb the atmosphere.

The REMA320 resolves this by keeping the contact mass where the current needs it and the plating continuous across the whole mating face, so there is no bare copper edge for acid mist to attack.

Temperature Range and Real Charging Rooms

The -20℃ to 105℃ range is not a marketing figure. Cold stores push connectors to the lower end, and a charger bank in a warm corner pushes them to the upper end, often on the same site. A connector rated for comfortable conditions becomes the weak point in exactly the season when the fleet is busiest.

105℃ also covers the case nobody plans for: a joint that has already started to heat and is running well above ambient before anyone notices.

Checks That Belong in the Service Schedule

At each battery service, look at the contact face for discoloration, mate the connector once and confirm it seats with a firm action, then feel the housing after a charge. Any of the three out of character means the pair should be inspected properly rather than run to failure.

The REMA320 does not exist on its own: the same family covers 80A and 160A connectors, all built to IEC60309-1:1999 and sharing the PP shell and T2 silver plating. A site that runs several charger sizes can therefore keep one material specification and one crimping method, while the current rating changes with the truck.

That consistency matters more than it sounds. When every connector in a bay behaves the same way in the hand, a driver notices immediately when one does not, and a worn part gets reported before it fails.

Temperature and Derating in Practice

The -20℃ to 105℃ range describes the environment the connector tolerates, not a licence to run it at 105℃. In practice, a 320A joint should sit close to cable temperature during charge; a housing noticeably hotter than the lead beside it is the signal that resistance has risen, whether from the contact face or from the crimp behind it.

Checking that relationship a few times a year is more useful than any single temperature reading, because it compares the connector against its own circuit rather than against a datasheet figure.

For sites that also run 80A and 160A REMA connectors, the 320A body is visually distinct enough that a driver picks the right lead by habit, and the shared material specification means the maintenance routine does not change between them.
