Most vent caps do one job: let gas out. The LK-CAP-5 does a second one — it catches the water vapour leaving with that gas and returns it to the cell. The mechanism is entirely inside the cap, which is why it is worth explaining rather than just claiming.

The Number Behind the Design
Against a standard vent plug, the cap reduces water loss by about 60%. In the comparison used by the maker: where a standard plug loses 1kg of water, this one loses about 400g. Over a season that is the difference between a pack that needs watering twice and one that needs it once — and every avoided top-up is a cell that was never allowed to fall below its plates.
Slower water loss also slows the rise in acid concentration that drives plate polarization, which is the mechanism the maker cites for the longer service life.
Where the Structure Came From
The design was developed and customised for EnerSys (USA) and is patented; documentation is available on request. That provenance matters less than what it implies: the cap was engineered against a specification from a battery maker rather than styled for a catalogue.
Refilling Without Removing the Cap
The top opens for water, so the plug stays in the cell and the seal is not disturbed by every top-up. That is the practical benefit of the same structure: a cap that has to be unscrewed to water is a cap that gets left loose, cross-threaded, or lost.

Choosing Between 75 and 92
The length is set by the depth of the cell opening, not by the battery's voltage. A short opening takes the 75mm; a deeper one takes the 92mm. The internal structure is the same in both, so the water-saving behaviour does not change with size — only the fit does.

What to Check on a Delivery
Open one cap and look inside: the internal top cover should be clean and unobstructed, with no moulding flash across the vent path. Then fit it to a spare cell and confirm the flip top opens and closes with a positive action. Two minutes on one cap tells you what the batch is like.
For a fleet order, replace the whole set rather than the failed caps. A string with new caps beside five-year-old ones vents unevenly, and the oldest cap is always the next one to fail.
