For packs where the posts sit wider apart, or where the link has to route around a divider.

A 170mm centre length exists because battery layouts are not uniform. Where a pack uses wider cell spacing, or where a divider sits between two posts, the standard 130mm link will not reach without strain. Strain is the thing to avoid. A cable pulled tight to make a connection transfers every vibration of the pack straight into the lug, and a lug that moves will loosen. The longer link takes that movement into the cable, which is what a flexible lead is for. |

Where the Extra Length Goes
On a routed link, the extra 40mm becomes a gentle curve rather than a straight span. That curve absorbs movement and keeps the cable off the cell case, which matters where the pack vibrates under load. It also gives the fitter room to work when the terminal is in a corner of the container.
Measure to the route, not to the shortest path. A link that reaches by the shortest line usually ends up touching something it should not.

Fitting and Service
Route the lead before tightening either terminal. With the extra length, the cable should sit in a curve that clears the cell case along its whole run; if it has to be held out of the way with a tie, the route is wrong.
At service, check that the curve has not been pulled straight by a shifted pack. A link that has lost its curve is now under tension, and the warm lug that follows is a symptom rather than the cause.

Cables come from top-class manufacturers and are inspected in house; online technical support runs during the order and after-market service afterwards. Other lengths, including custom measurements, are produced in the same construction, and the family covers 25mm, 50mm and 70mm.

When 170mm Is the Wrong Choice
A longer link is not an upgrade. Where the posts sit at 130mm centres, a 170mm cable has to loop, and a loop in a battery compartment touches the cell case, collects acid film and creates a place for movement to concentrate. If the spacing is standard, use the standard length; the extra 40mm only helps where the route genuinely needs it.
The same applies when a pack is rebuilt with cells of a different height: the answer is a measured length, not the next size up.
Termination and Torque
These leads are built for screw-type battery terminals. Fit the lug flat against the post, tighten to the terminal specification rather than by feel, and re-check after the first charge cycle when the joint has been through one heat cycle. A link that needed re-tightening once should be watched; one that needs it twice should be replaced.
