Forty Cells: The Point Where Hand Watering Stops Being Realistic

An 80V 40-cell pack belongs to the heavy end of the electric fleet: large counterbalance trucks, container handlers, heavy tow tractors. The pack is big, the compartment is deep, and the caps at the back are reached only by leaning into the battery bay. Forty cells watered by hand is not a task anyone performs well twice.
AWS-40 replaces all forty heads with float valves fed from one line, with a 50L tank and 7m of 6mm line sized to the length of the run.

Why the 80V Class Needs This More Than a 24V Truck
Three reasons, all practical. Access: the pack is deeper and heavier, so caps are reached less comfortably. Consequence: a dry cell in a 40-cell string costs more to replace and takes the machine out for longer. Consistency: heavy-duty trucks often work hard and charge hard, which is exactly the duty that makes cells drift apart in water consumption.
Fitting on a Deep Compartment
Fit the heads before the pack is installed if there is any choice about the order — access is the whole job. Route the 6mm line along the tray and turn with the T-piece; on a 40-cell run the pipe is 7m and it must not be pulled tight, because a tight run lifts heads when the cover closes. Close the far end with an end plug and bring the supply through the indicator to a coupling that stays reachable with the cover down. On trucks with a roller bed, leave slack at the coupling end for the bed to travel.
Water and Service
Distilled or deionised only. The valves set the level; they cannot correct the chemistry. Service is the indicator element and occasional checks of the joints, both common across the range, so a site running 48V and 80V trucks needs one spares bag.
Questions
Is 50L enough for forty cells? Yes, with margin for a top-up; the pack does not need a refill mid-fill with this tank.
Can the tank stay on the truck? It can travel on board if secured, but the normal practice is to connect, fill and disconnect.
What if two cells are already low? Fill once, let the system level everything, and check those two heads for a blocked filter or a damaged valve.
