No jacket makes a cable immortal in a battery room. What a corrosion-resistant jacket does is slow the two processes that end a lead's life: the acid film that attacks the insulation from outside, and the moisture that reaches the strands once the jacket is breached. Where Flexible Heavy Leads Are Used
Beyond the cell links, a battery system uses heavier flexible leads for the run to the truck harness, for charger outlets and for connections that have to follow a moving pack. Those runs are where a stiff cable becomes a liability: the lead has to bend at the entry and again where it turns into the compartment, and a jacket that resists both bends transfers the load to the lugs at each end.
Inspection That Catches It Early
Look at the ends, not the middle. Corrosion starts where the strands are exposed by the termination, and a white or green deposit on a lug is the first visible sign. The second sign is stiffness: bend the cable where it leaves the lug, and if the jacket has hardened, the lead has already lost the flexibility it was chosen for.

Repair or Replace
A cable with a cut jacket can be taped, and a loose lug can be re-terminated, but neither restores what has already happened inside. Once moisture has reached the strands, corrosion continues under the insulation and the resistance rises quietly until the joint is warm on every charge.
The decision is easier when the lead is cheap relative to the downtime. On a forklift that earns its keep during a shift, a new flexible lead is usually the cheaper answer, and it removes the uncertainty that comes with a repair nobody can inspect.
