A watering system earns its place in a battery room on one question alone: does it stay sealed. Every kit on the market lists float valves, indicators and couplings; the difference between a system that runs for years and one that is blamed for a wet tray in its first month is in the joints.
AWS-18 has been in service long enough for that judgement to be made on results rather than on specification. The sealing logic is deliberately simple: push-fit joints with their own seals, a closed run between two end plugs, and couplings that are designed as a connection rather than a push-on.
Why a Leak Shows Early
A joint that seeps does not fail quietly. It shows within a few fillings, as damp dust at the fitting or a mark on the tray, and it shows while someone is standing there with the tank connected. That makes the failure self-reporting: the operator sees it, the joint is replaced from a bag of spares, and nothing reaches the cells. The failure mode nobody wants is the one that happens invisibly between services, and a closed, pressurised run with visible joints does not produce it.

The Filter Is Part of the Sealing Story
The indicator carries the filter, and the filter is what keeps a float valve from sticking open. A valve held open by grit does not leak onto the tray — it keeps taking water, which is worse, because the cell overfills while the rest of the string looks normal. Replacing the indicator element at service intervals is the cheapest maintenance item in the system and the one most often skipped.
Fitting on a 36V Truck
Heads go on in place of the caps, the 6mm line follows the tray and turns at the T-piece, the far end is closed with an end plug and the supply runs through the indicator to the K10 coupling. Ten minutes with the battery cover open, and the pack is watered by connection from then on. On a truck that runs multiple shifts, put the coupling where a hose reaches it without moving the machine.
Questions
What pressure does it need? Gravity from a tank at working height is enough; no pump is required.
Can I test it before fitting all the heads? Assemble the run and fill it once with the far end plugged; a joint that will seep shows at that point.
Spares? Heads, end plugs, T-pieces and seals are common across AWS-12 to AWS-40, so one bag covers a mixed fleet.
Ordering
Send the cell count and one photograph of a vent cap. The set is packed against that cap pattern and shipped complete with tank, pipe, couplings and end plugs.
