SC175: Built for the Truck That Never Stops

Stackers and warehouse trucks do not lead a gentle life. A 175A connector on one of them is plugged and unplugged several times a shift, carries current for hours, and is then left hanging by its cable. The SC175 is specified for that duty rather than for a catalogue figure.
Duty Cycle Is the Real Specification
A connector is rated for current and for voltage; what it is rarely rated for is the number of times it will be mated. In a stacker fleet, that number is high: battery swaps, charging connections, and the occasional test. Each mate is a small wear event on the contact and on the latch, and a connector that is marginal when new becomes a hot joint after a year of that.
The SC175 addresses it in the places where wear happens: a latch that holds its tension, contacts that are plated so the resistance does not climb with each cycle, and a housing that survives being dropped with the cable still attached.
The Ratings
175A continuous, 600V, UL1977, IP20, -20℃ to +105℃, 2500V DC withstand. Two-pin bipolar configuration. Terminals are T2 copper with silver plating; the shell is PC110U polycarbonate. Colour is standard or to customer requirement.
The 175A figure is where this connector sits in a fleet: heavy enough for a stacker or a small counterbalance truck, light enough that the lead stays manageable for an operator changing a battery in a tight compartment.
Cable Sizes It Accepts
Terminals are offered for 4 AWG, 2 AWG, 1 AWG and 0/1 AWG. That range covers the leads used on most 175A applications, and it exists because a 175A connector is used on more than one truck class — a stacker lead and a small counterbalance lead are not the same cable even when the connector is the same.
Match the die to the cable, not to the lug. A crimp made with the wrong die looks correct and measures wrong, and at 175A the difference shows up as heat at the terminal rather than as a visible fault.
Silver on T2 Copper
Plating is what keeps a re-made joint stable. Bare copper oxidises, and the oxide is resistive; on a connector that is mated hundreds of times, that resistance accumulates quietly until the joint is warm on every charge. Silver plating holds the contact resistance where it started, which is why it appears at every rating in this family rather than only at the top.
Housing and Handle
PC110U polycarbonate gives impact strength without the brittleness of a hard plastic, and the connector is supplied as a set with a matched handle and cover. The handle is the part that takes the abuse — an operator pulls the connector out by it a dozen times a day — so a matched set is not a packaging convenience, it is the part that keeps the connector in one piece.
Where the Failures Actually Appear
At the crimp. The most common cause of a warm 175A joint. A pull-test before closing the housing catches nearly all of it.
At the latch. A latch that has lost tension lets the connector work loose under vibration; the symptom is intermittent contact rather than a clean failure.
At the cable entry. A lead hanging from its connector puts a permanent bend at the entry; over months the jacket hardens at that point and splits.
At the contact face. Contamination from handling, and occasionally from being wiped with an abrasive that removes the plating.
A Note on 175A Versus 350A
The two are not interchangeable, and the difference is not only the current rating: the 350A accepts 2/0 to 300 AWG cable, while this one stops at 0/1 AWG. Fitting a 175A connector to a 2/0 lead is a mistake that produces a hot joint from the first shift, because the cable can carry more than the contact can pass.
Maintenance That Fits a Shift
At each battery change: look at the contact face. At each service: check the latch tension and the cable entry. Once a season: compare connector temperature across the fleet after charging, and investigate the outlier. None of those steps takes more than a minute, and together they prevent the failure mode that stops a truck mid-shift.
Ordering
Specify the cable size with the connector so the terminals are matched at the factory rather than at the bench. Where a fleet uses several ratings, order by machine class and keep the sizes separate in the store — the shells look alike, and a mixed box is how the wrong connector ends up on the wrong lead.

Why the IP20 Rating Is Honest
IP20 is often read as a limitation and it should be: this connector is not for a wash-down area and not for an outdoor charging point with no cover. What it is for is a battery compartment, where the risk is contact with fingers and tools rather than with water. A site that needs more should specify a different enclosure rather than expect this one to tolerate spray.
Matching a Connector to a Truck Class
As a rule: hand pallet trucks and small stackers sit at the low end of the range, warehouse stackers and small counterbalance machines at 175A, and heavier counterbalance trucks at 350A. The rule is a starting point, not a specification — the cable already fitted to the truck is the better evidence, because a connector has to match the lead as well as the load.
One Spare Set per Site
A single spare 175A set on the shelf converts a failed connector from a truck off the road into a ten-minute repair. Given that the shells look alike across ratings, label the spare with its cable size as well as its model.
