AWS-24: the 48V Slot in a Six-Voltage Range

Most battery rooms run more than one voltage. A yard with 24V pallet trucks, 48V counterbalance machines and a 72V reach truck ends up buying three different kits, holding three sets of spares and training operators three times. This range is built the other way round: the heads, end plugs, T-piece, flow indicator and couplings are common across every model — only the head count, the pipe length and the tank size change with the pack.

AWS-24 is the 48V member. Twenty-four float heads, a 20L tank, 4m of 6mm watering line and 3m of 10mm supply line. If the pack is twenty-four cells, this is the kit.

Every model carries 2 end plugs, 1 T-piece (6-10-6), 1 flow indicator with filter and one male plus one female K10 coupling.

Why a Mixed Fleet Buys One Series

Spares collapse to a single drawer. A lost end plug, a cracked T-piece or a blocked indicator is the same part on a 24V truck and an 80V reach truck, so the stores crib holds one line item instead of five. Operators learn the sequence once: connect, open, watch the indicator, disconnect. There is no per-model procedure to remember and no second training session when a new machine arrives.

The second saving is diagnostic. Because every pack in the building waters the same way, a pack that takes noticeably longer to fill is a pack with a problem — a blocked filter, a leaking joint, a valve that has stopped closing. On a mixed set of manual caps that signal does not exist, because nobody knows what normal looks like.

Choosing the Model

Count the cells, not the voltage. A 48V lead-acid pack is twenty-four 2V cells and takes AWS-24; a 48V pack built from four 12V monoblocs is also twenty-four cells and takes the same kit. What cannot be counted is the cap pattern: bayonet, thread and push-in all exist in this class and the watering head has to match the cell it replaces. One photograph of a single cap settles it before the order rather than after the delivery.

Questions

Can the 20L tank serve several 48V packs? Yes. The K10 coupling is made to be disconnected and reconnected, so one tank moves between machines.

Is anything else needed to fit it? No. The set is complete for a 24-cell pack; the only variable is the cap pattern, which is confirmed before shipping.

Can a 72V machine use the 48V kit? No — a 36-cell pack needs thirty-six heads and 7m of 6mm line. Use AWS-36 for that machine and keep the spare fittings common.

What water? Distilled or deionised. The float valves control the level, not the chemistry; minerals from tap water stay in the cells and accumulate.
